Does an infidelity clause mean he thinks I will cheat?

In the new day and age where anything goes, marriage is sometimes handled more like a business relationship than an emotional one. It is for this reason that lifestyle clauses such as the infidelity clause of a prenuptial agreement are so widely accepted. Including an infidelity clause in your prenuptial does not mean either one spouse is suspected of having cheating potential. It does, however, show the dedication each spouse has to making their marriage work. The less you leave unsaid or undiscussed, the less likely any one topic will become an issue.

Although lifestyle clauses are a relatively new concept, they have caught on like wildfire. Love and marriage are great, but knowing exactly what to expect from your spouse after the I do's, may be even better. Though prenups were once thought of as only a way to protect assets, new changes have turned them into a guarantee of sorts. Modern day prenups allow spouses to outline their expectations and desires for marriage, making the consequences, if in default, loud and clear. In the case of an infidelity clause, spouses don't necessarily think the other will cheat, but may just want to make clear the consequences, if they do.

For many soon-to-be-married couples, the idea of discussing a prenuptial agreement, with or without lifestyle clauses, may seem too touchy of a subject. However, a skilled attorney can help breach the topic between couples, and put it into terms that are easily understood and accepted. Besides, if discussing a prenup is too difficult, just imagine how hard it would be to discuss the situations a prenup could have prevented.
