Do you want to win or be happy?

California residents in the process of getting a divorce might benefit from asking themselves the question of whether they want to win the divorce battle or whether they want to be happy. A divorce expert stated in the Huffington Post that sometimes people might let their feelings and resentments get in the way of their reason. Sometimes it might be best to let the fight go in favor of obtaining happiness.

The expert went on to tell about her own divorce. She stated that when she and her ex were going through their divorce proceedings, he wanted her to pay him maintenance for two years so that he could obtain an additional degree at a university. Since he was already employable, though, she felt that his request was unfair. She prepared herself for a battle in divorce court.

It was only later after speaking with a friend that she realized she didn't want to go though the additional emotional and financial turmoil of a drawn-out divorce. She stated that the happiness of her 4-year-old daughter and herself were more important than winning the fight. Therefore, she compromised with her ex, which she says is one of the best moves she's ever made. She says that now her ex has a better career so he can help provide for their daughter, and they enjoy a cordial relationship not tainted by a bitter divorce battle.

Anyone in the process of getting a divorce might benefit from the legal representation of a divorce lawyer. Divorce lawyers might be able to assist their clients in negotiating divorce settlements and help them work through tough topics such as child custody, child support, alimony and division of property.
