Mother facing charges of custodial interference

When parents choose to opt for a divorce, it's usually the child that suffers the most. Splits can get nasty and the children often end up getting hurt in the crossfire. This is especially the case when it comes to issues of child custody, where the children feel pulled between two people they love and might feel as if they need to choose between one or the other. In most cases, the parents want to do what's in the best interests of the child but even with a spirit of cooperation, things can get contentious.

The important thing to remember is that you should never take the situation into your own hands and break the law, even if you feel you've been slighted by the system. There are always options available to you, including a child custody modification in some cases.

Consider the recent case of a woman who was apparently upset with her custody arrangement. An Amber Alert went out around 6:25 p.m. May 14, a couple of hours after police had learned that the mother had taken her 3-year-old girl, in violation of a court order. By 6:43, someone called and reported that they recognized the car in the Amber Alert parked on the road. Police found the girl inside and later arrested the mother, who is now facing charges of custodial interference and reckless endangering.

If you're unhappy with your child custody agreement, don't take drastic measures. An attorney may be able to help you get a child custody modification.
