Same-sex parenting comparisons

It seems the nation is coming around and getting tougher on discrimination and is now more accepting of diversity in all aspects of life, love and the general pursuit of happiness. Using statistics focused on LGBT couples and pulled from data more than a half-decade ago, we evidenced trends when comparing married versus nonmarried same-sex couples as well as trends comparing same-sex couples and different-sex couples. It will be interesting to find if anything has altered these trends or if the data continued on with strengthening numbers in all respective areas.

In 2010, Census data taken from same-sex couples indicated that couples who were considered single were half as likely to be raising any children, whether they were step, biological or adopted. These numbers also showed close to 35 percent were female same-sex spousal married couples involved in the upbringing of children in their homes and 28 percent who raised children and considered themselves as married were male. This compares to only 26 percent combined of same-sex unmarried male and female couples.

These statistics also showed that a vast amount of adoptions come from same-sex households as compared to households with different-sex couples.

When it comes to divorce of same-sex couples, things are changing at a rapid pace. Where there is growing tolerance and respect, there is a need for accommodating all aspects of a relationship, from its initiation to the possibility of its termination. If you are contemplating a divorce and have children, whether biologic, adopted or step, you are likely to benefit significantly from a California family law attorney who is well-versed in same-sex divorces and who can assist in all aspect of custody resolution.
