Woman reminisces about adoption journey over holidays

There may be many reasons why a mother may determine that she is unable to provide the best home for a new baby. Arriving at the decision to place a child for adoption may be one of the most emotional decisions a birth mother will ever make. However, giving a child the opportunity to be successful is indeed admirable. There are thousands of families in California who have opened their homes and hearts to a child through adoption.

Recently, one woman spent time reflecting on her experiences as a child adopted by a family of a different race. While she is no longer a child, she expressed her love for her adopted family. She had also spent time with a foster family in her infancy, though she will not be able to contact them due to her closed adoption.

Now a successful woman, she has remarked that it is sometimes bittersweet to wonder about her own heritage. She is disappointed that her birth mother was not able to open up to her, and she still has no knowledge as to the identity of her biological father. She also noted a desire to connect with members of her birth family, though it is unclear the extent of that contact.

This woman emphasized her thankfulness toward the family who made her a part of their lives, regardless of their different backgrounds. She expressed her view that her adoption was a gift that continues to have a positive impact on her life. California families who may be considering adoption will likely benefit by seeking the advice and support of a family law attorney.
