Growing trend of on-line adoption scams

For families who are seeking to adopt a child, if something seems too good to be true, it might be. Authorities claim that there is a growing rate of adoption scams that are occurring online. California families who are hoping to bring a child into their homes do have safer avenues to try.

Recently, a woman in another state was arrested and charged with engaging in fraud. Officials stated that the woman was using various social media platforms to attempt to trick hopeful adoptive parents. She has been arrested on several charges of obtaining property under false pretenses.

Social media and online sales sites are being used more frequently for scamming potential adoptive families. Officials warn that these sites are not recommended when seeking to legally adopt a child. While adoptive parents are permitted to furnish an expectant mother with housing and related expenses, it is not lawful for money to be exchanged for the actual child. It may be beneficial to both parties to seek qualified professionals to ensure that the rights of both birth and adoptive parents are protected in this important decision.

Many parents are so eager to adopt that it may be confusing as to what options are the best. California parents do have many avenues when they are ready to add to their family through adoption. They may elect to seek the advice of an experienced family law attorney who can work with them throughout the process with knowledgeable compassion to ensure that it is as streamlined as possible.
